SEWING SKILLS – DRESSMAKING with Annabelle Davis
At The Oast Studio, Hartfield, East Sussex
Ready to move beyond the basics and start developing your dressmaking skills? This hands-on workshop builds on our Beginners Sewing and Sewing Skills classes, introducing a range of techniques and terminology to help you understand how garments are constructed and feel more ready to take on your own dressmaking projects.
We'll explore some of the key skills used in garment making, from creating shape and fullness to working with different seams, edges, fastenings and finishes. Through demonstrations and guided practice, you'll learn how these techniques are used and when to apply them. There's plenty to cover, so the session is designed to give you an introduction to a range of dressmaking techniques rather than practise every skill in detail. We'll focus our hands-on time on a selection of techniques, chosen to suit the group and allow you to get the most from the session. With clear demonstrations, practical guidance and plenty of opportunity to ask questions, you'll leave with a better understanding of garment construction and the confidence to take your sewing to the next level.

Duration: Around 4.5 hours
Suitable for: Sewers who have completed our Beginners Sewing and Sewing Skills classes, or who are already confident using a sewing machine.
Class size: Maximum 8

How and when to apply a range of dressmaking techniques

Plenty of fabric remnants to experiment with
Sewing machines (or you're welcome to bring your own)
Plentiful refreshments and home baked treats
WHAT TO BRING:
Nothing essential - everything is provided. You're welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer.
