Service Description
WILLOW BASKET WEAVING WORKSHOP - THE OAST STUDIO, EAST SUSSEX With: Nick Vane Learn the beautiful, timeless craft of willow weaving in this hands-on beginners workshop. Using traditional methods passed down through generations, you'll craft your own beautiful round basket to take home. Duration: 8hrs Suitable For: All Class Size: 4 We are delighted to bring you this Basket weaving workshop with Nick Vane. Nick is a basket maker with fifteen years experience of teaching groups both in supported-living and recreational pop-up workshop settings. You will follow traditional methods which will include an introduction to the materials, tools, techniques and safety aspects so that basketry can become the beginning of a new hobby. The group will be small so that one to one tuition can be given as necessary and all the tools etc will be available for use. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron, as working with willow can get a bit wet! We'll provide all the materials and tools you need, and Alison from The Oast Bakery will keep you fuelled with teas, coffees and her delicious freshly baked treats. During this workshop you will learn: How to select and prepare willow Safe use of basketry tools How to make a round basket including Pairing the base Staking up the sides A variety of basic weaves How to finish a border Basketry jargon Basketry suppliers Accessibility: Please note that most courses are held upstairs. If you’re unable to attend for any reason, please note that we are unable to offer refunds for our courses. However, you are welcome to transfer your booking to a friend or family member — just let us know who will be attending in your place. Alternatively, once the course is fully booked, we can attempt to resell your spot through our database and social media. If we are successful, we can either issue a refund (minus a 10% administration fee) or offer you a place on an alternative course, subject to availability.
