Making hard wearing rag rugs out of old clothes or unwanted fabric is a brilliant way to recycle.
We will learn the skills needed to make both a hooked rag rug and a looped rag rug. You will find yourself hunting for colour and texture in our stash of fabric remnants - and then in your cupboards and wardrobes at home!
During this workshop you will learn:
How to look at old fabrics in a new way
How to plan a simple design
How to use a rug making hook
How to cut your fabric efficiently
What's included:
A large selection of fabric remnants
The rug canvas backing
All other materials needed
A home cooked lunch
Teas, coffee and delicious treats from the Oast Bakery
We have lots of scrap fabrics to use, but please feel free to bring along your own too. Old T-shirts work brilliantly and it really doesn't matter what condition they are in! Think about colour and texture.... old washing up gloves are great fun, and things like netting too. All sorts of things work.
What will your's be... A rug? A cushion? A table mat? A bag?
There will be rug making tools available to buy if you get hooked and would like to take one home!
"Just to thank Annabelle for a wonderful introduction to Rag Rug making, a fantastic day; excellent teaching in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere with fabulous food as well. I have never enjoyed working with fabric despite loving a lot of other crafts such as stained glass, basket weaving and pottery -and I am now totally “hooked “ on rug making and have since ordered all the kit - I just can’t stop!!!!
Many Thanks and looking forward to my next course …"
