The Green Woodpecker is a familiar sight around Ashdown Forest, known for its distinctive undulating flight and unmistakable laughing call – often described as a loud, echoing "yaffle" that carries through the trees.

In springtime, the Green Woodpecker is also a regular visitor to our gardens, often seen foraging on lawns in search of ants – their favourite food! Occasionally, they even bring their young along, delighting anyone lucky enough to spot them. With such captivating encounters, it’s no wonder that many members of our Oast needle felting community have been encouraging Cecily Kate to capture the charm of this iconic British bird in felted form!
